March Meeting 3/12 Focus on Reducing Carbon Emissions (HB2020)

A climate scientist will discuss the merits of HB 2020, the proposed legislation allowing for a cap and trade system aimed at reducing carbon emissions in Oregon, at the March 12 meeting of the Josephine County Democrats.

Alan Journet, grew up in Great Britain, then spent several years in Canada and Australia, moved to the United States in 1980. He taught Biology and Environmental Science for 30 years at Southeast Missouri State University and formed the Southeast Missouri Climate Protection Initiative. After relocating to Southern Oregon with his wife, Alan built an energy efficient passive/active solar home in the Applegate Valley. Finding no grassroots climate activist organization in the area, Alan and his wife Kathy Conway established the Southern Oregon Climate Action Now, of which he serves as co-facilitator and board president.

Journet spoke about global warming at the Democrats July 2017 meeting, when he pointed out Josephine County has warmed by .9% during the last half-century and will warm to 8.8% at the end of the century if nothing is done.

The meeting will be held at 129 NW “E” Street in Grants Pass. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The meeting starts at 7.
