From the website: The State of Oregon has a Citizen Legislature consisting of the Senate, whose 30 members are elected to serve four-year terms, and the House of Representatives, which has 60 members elected for two-year terms. The assembly convenes every two years in regular session on the second Monday in January during odd-numbered years, a date set by statute. Oregon Constitution does not specify a limitation on session length, however most sessions last approximately six months. During the interim, legislators serve on interim committees and task forces that study issues likely to be faced during the next legislative session.

Women in Black is a worldwide network of women united in their commitment to a world free of violence. Women in Black vigils are composed of women standing in silence in a public place at regular times to honor the lives lost to violence and to represent peace. Given the current state of American society where hatred and discrimination continue unabated and senseless killings occur daily, you can make a statement by joining Women in Black peace vigils.
Women in Black vigils began in Israel in 1988 when a group of Palestinian and Israeli women stood together to bring attention to the violence of the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. The idea quickly spread throughout the world. The movement was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize and an Israeli Women in Black group accepted the 2001 Millennium Peace Prize for Women from the United Nations.
Women in Black have a vision of peace, compassion and justice. Since 2002, hundreds of people have stood in Women in Black vigils in Grants Pass, Medford, Ashland, Cave Junction, Shady Cove, Roseburg and throughout the world.
The Grants Pass Women in Black vigil is held on the first and third Mondays of each month, with the exception of holidays, from noon until 12:30 on the south side of the post office on Sixth Street. All are welcome, including men.
The Northwest Progressive Institute (NPI) was founded in August of 2003 as a forum of thought on politics, government, and policy. NPI believes that America will only be a better place if our freedoms are kept safe, our country works for peace, not aggression, and we as a people come together to realize our place in the world. NPI is a grassroots think tank. It’s an unconventional concept, but basically, it’s an institution created to research progressive ideas and promote progressive values and solutions to elected officials, opinionmakers, and the American people.
Owned and powered by NPI, Pacific Northwest Portal was founded in January of 2005 to provide the citizens of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Alaska with local news and political commentary, as well as allow the rest of the nation and the world to gain access to an entire region of news & local progressive viewpoints through one website.
